An update on all the highways news in Eaton from County Councillor Brian Watkins.

Eaton Councillors report damaged railings

The railings at the Newmarket Road crossing near Poplar Avenue have been hit twice in the last 6 months. The damage has been reported and questions asked of highways officers to look to see why there have been 2 accidents in a short period of time.

New Street Trees from County Councillor’s budget

Spring will see 8 new street trees planted along South Park Avenue, near Custance Court. Funded from part of a small £11,000 County Councillor’s budget they will be particularly welcome to help prevent some of the verge parking from UEA students and employees which blocks visibility for those exiting Custance Court.

The parking has been worse since the introduction of parking charges into Eaton Park. When this was reported to the council as a consequence of the charges, city councillors were told there was no money to help with the problem. Fortunately, your County Councillor Brian Watkins was happy to use his budget to help.

Brian asks residents to help look after the young trees which will need water throughout dry spells during their first 2 years of life.

Eaton Councillors push hard for local highways improvements

Your Eaton Lib Dem Team are pushing for important highways improvements – money from the Road Safety Community Scheme is being sought for 2 schemes. The first one is to extend the 20mph zone at the Eaton crossroads to take in the stretch of Bluebell Road as far as Bluebell Crescent.

The second one has involved Cllr Brian Watkins working with officers and residents on a speed reduction scheme which deals with the left hand turn from Unthank Road into Judges Walk. Both schemes have been submitted to the County Council for approval.

Brian said, “I am also using my County Councillor’s budget to introduce new verge protection measures on Eaton Road close to the CNS school to help stop the illegal parking on the grass verge”.
