Council set to revamp market
Norwich City Council is discussing the redevelopment of Norwich Market, one of the UK's oldest and largest open-air markets. The project aims to improve facilities for locals and tourists, enhancing the city's dynamic appeal. The plan includes supporting local businesses, moving towards zero-waste, and achieving Norwich's low-carbon goals. The council approved £740,000 for design plans, which may introduce new shopping zones and Italian-style piazzas. Key improvements include better toilet facilities and reducing pigeon nuisance, while creating outdoor seating or boulevard features.

Cllr Caroline Ackroyd commented:
"What is crucial is that in creating a more diverse range of stalls we do not throw away the traditional stalls which so many value. What is even more important perhaps is that Norwich citizens see value for money from the sum of money being spent on exploratory designs.”
