In the Spring, Norwich is set to become a Dementia Friendly and Inclusive City. In conjunction with this, a steering group to facilitate the creation of Eaton as a Dementia Friendly Community has been set up and meets monthly. Those attending include representatives from Waitrose, Eaton Golf Club, Notcutts, Eaton Village Residents' Association, Ipswich Road URC, Eaton Parishes, Adult Education, Patients' Forum, Alzheimer's Society, Homeinstead and Eaton Councillors. We are working with Marie Lucas, Dementia Development Lead at Age UK Norwich.

We continue to gain new members who each bring valuable areas of expertise. Apart from the monthly planning meetings, members of the group have taken part in Dementia Friends Information Sessions, attended lectures and conferences, visited dementia cafes and explored practical possibilities such as setting up a dementia-friendly garden in this area.

Jill Noble, who works for the Alzheimer's Society has offered to run Dementia Friends Information Sessions for members of the community who would like to know how best to support those living with dementia and their carers.

Initially, there is a choice of 2 sessions: Monday 23rd January at 2.30pm and 1st February at 7.30pm. Sessions will last between 45 minutes and 1 hour, and there will be an opportunity for discussion over a cup of tea. Many thanks to Sheila Nunney and St Andrew's Church, Eaton for providing the venue. Numbers are limited to 20 per session and if you would like to register, or for more details about the steering group, please contact Cllr Caroline Ackroyd on 07941 259502 or c.ackroyd@norwichlibdems.org.uk.
