EU citizens continue leading role in Lib Dem campaign for best future for Norwich
Norwich Liberal Democrats have hailed the full role EU citizens are playing in leading the campaign for the best future of Norwich City Council despite continuing Brexit uncertainty.
Liberal Democrat City Council candidate for Town Close Ward Silvia Schmidtova is running with a particular focus on seeing that the children in Norwich are well looked after and that schools in Town Close and across the city are well funded.
She spoke at the party's Spring Conference in York today on a motion on the future approach towards Brexit: "I joined the Liberal Democrats because it is a pro-European and internationalist party, that I why I am standing in the local elections in Norwich."
She added on Brexit: "I am worried about the future of EU nationals like me in the UK […] I have lived in Norfolk for 12 years and feel part of my local community. Many European citizens like me have built a new life here, but the current situation is a nightmare."
Liberal Democrat Leader Sir Vince Cable MP added in remarks at the conference that if Theresa May's Brexit deal is rejected for a third time next week, MPs could start taking steps to revoke Article 50 and effectively cancel the referendum result.
