Norwich has a new civic team
Eaton City Councillor James Wright has been chosen as the new Lord Mayor of Norwich.
At the formal ceremony in City Hall James spoke of the trust involved in the ‘prestigious role’ and that it is the greatest honour someone born and bred in Norwich can have bestowed upon them. He said he was committed to doing his utmost to replay that trust in the year ahead.
The new Sheriff is Dr Jan Sheldon the CEO of St Martins Housing Trust. James described the events he and the Sheriff would attend during their Civic Year as an opportunity to say thank you, on behalf of the city, to the many citizens who work tirelessly, day in and day out, for the benefit of others.
Eaton City Councillor Caroline Ackroyd was appointed as Deputy Lord Mayor. This is perhaps the first time a mother and son have held these civic roles in the same year.
The Civic Charity will be Norfolk Community Foundation and their ‘Nourishing Norfolk Initiative’ addressing the rapidly rising food prices affecting those on low incomes and offering people in Norwich a local place to shop on a budget and the chance to access the support they need.
