Norfolk County Council plan to install a signalised crossing at the Eaton Road/Newmarket Road junction. The scheme would form part of a £32million programme of improvements for Norwich, and if given the go-ahead would enable cyclists and pedestrians to cross more safely. It would also provide collateral benefits for children walking to/from CNS School. Lib Dem County Councillor Brian Watkins said that any measures to improve safety at this junction would be welcome, but that it would be necessary to consult with the public before any changes were introduced. Further feasibility and design work will take place in the coming weeks.

There are also plans for improvements along the No.25 bus route from the UEA to the city centre, which is the busiest in Norfolk. Brian Watkins reports that this would involve widening parts of South Park Avenue, and replacing the traffic island with a new pedestrian crossing close to the park entrance. This scheme will also go out for public consultation shortly.
