Pollution on the River Yare

18 Jan 2021

Many people have reacted in horror to the recent pollution problems close to the University on the River Yare and its impact on habitats and wildlife in the area. Local Lib Dem councillors Brian Watkins and Judith Lubbock were amongst the numerous complaints demanding prompt action from the Environment Agency. Oil on the surface of the river had first been identified just before Christmas, and dog owners were warned not to let their pets enter the water. The Agency immediately put in place measures to contain the problem, but it was several weeks before efforts to locate the source were finally successful.
